Lido Hotels
Staying on the Venice Lido represents a wonderful (and more affordable) way to visit La Serenissima while also escaping from its hustle and bustle at the end of the day. Only a 15 minute vaporetto (water bus) ride from St Mark’s Square, the Lido, with its traffic and convenience shops, feels much more like everyday Italy than Venice itself – which is unreal in the best possible way.
The Lido also boasts attractions of its own: not least a lovely long beach facing the Adriatic (immortalised in the novel “Death in Venice” and the film of the same name.) The Lido is also an excellent departure point for visiting other, smaller islands in the Venice lagoon, especially the beautiful Burano – with its brightly coloured houses and lace-making – and Murano, home to the area’s famed glass-blowers.
