The Metropole Hotel is housed in a historical building that dates back to the 16th century and at one time operated as an orphanage (reputedly one of the first in the world.) The marble-floored reception and lobby area has a Byzantine feel to its decor and furniture. Some of the columns here are the 500-year-old originals. The restaurant, “Met”, which has a Michelin star, is situated at either side of reception and is decorated in warm red tones, with antique style furnishings. A hot and cold buffet breakfast is offered daily from 7.00 am - 10.30 am, while lunch and dinner are served Tuesday to Sunday from 12.30 pm -2.30 pm and 7.30 pm – 10.00 pm respectively. The bar, “Zodiaco,” also serves snacks and is a small intimate area, decorated in a similar style to the restaurant. The 70 guestrooms boast a more traditional Venetian theme. They are comfortably sized and equipped with mini bar, safe, air-conditioning, phone and flat screen television as standard. The attractive, fully tiled bathrooms have both shower and bathtub. There are two lifts to take guests to their rooms. WIFI is available throughout the hotel. There is a very large and beautiful courtyard garden to the rear of the hotel, partially covered with generous canopies. Here guests can melt into sofas and armchairs to enjoy peace and tranquillity on the balmy summer evenings.
