The hotel is made up of two, interconnecting buildings: the medieval Bauer Il Palazzo (overlooking the Grand Canal) and the more modern Bauer (facing the square). It houses 115 guestrooms in total. The main entrance to the hotel from the square leads into a grand reception hallway featuring polished red marble floors, high ceilings and chandeliers. There is almost an Art Deco feel to both the design and many of the furnishings, including the mirrors, lights, black leather armchairs and mirror top coffee tables (the Bauer was in fact designed to suit the taste of Mussolini in the 1940s.) A huge gold ancient map of Venice decorates an entire wall next to reception desk. There is also a small boutique, selling toiletries and luxury gifts, as well as a compact beauty salon opposite.
